The Department of Public Works oversees the trash collections for the town. Please call 401-886-8621 with any questions. The town would like to thank you for your continued cooperation and support for recycling which helps to reduce our waste disposal costs.

Appliances/Metals

Curbside appliance pickup will be provided 1 day a month by appointment only. The town accepts Freon items including refrigerators and air conditioners in addition to other household appliances and metals. Residents must call 401-886-8621 to schedule their pickup.

Bulky Pickup

Free pickup curbside for bulky items, such as furniture, carpet, etc. at a limit of 1 item per week. Place next to trash barrel or drop off at the Transfer Station.

E-Waste

Small quantities of e-waste can be dropped off for recycling at Cartridge World during regular business hours. Cartridge World is located at 776 Main Street in East Greenwich.

E-waste can also be recycled at yearly town events, call DPW at 401-886-8621 for details or visit Resource Recovery for a complete list of upcoming events. Items accepted at NO charge include computers, laptops, monitors, routers, PDAs, cell phones, mice, keyboards, ink-jet printers, toner cartridges, CD/DVD players, radios, televisions, network equipment, wires, stereos, speakers, telephones, cameras, microwaves, small household appliances, and acid lead batteries including auto/marine and battery back-ups. A disposal fee is charged for each laser-jet printer, air conditioner, dehumidifier, and other coolant containing devices.

Not accepted: Light bulbs, single use batteries, tapes/disks, glass, Styrofoam, broken TV tubes or any hazardous materials.

Mattresses & Box Springs

Only mattresses and box springs acceptable for recycling can be disposed of for free. Mattresses and box springs must not be severely damaged, wet, soiled or bug-infested to be considered acceptable. Free curbside pickup will be provided one day a month by appointment only. Residents must call 401-886-8620 or 886-8621 to schedule their pickup. Mattresses and box springs will also be accepted from residents for free on Saturdays at the Transfer Station.

Acceptable mattresses and box springs can also be disposal of for free at Ace Mattress Recycling during regular business hours.

Unacceptable mattresses and box springs require an appointment for bulky pickup and shall be subject to a $70/unit disposal fee.

Yard Waste

Curbside pickup will be provided for organic matter such as leaves, grass clippings, weeds, hedge clippings, brush and branches two (2) inches in diameter or less. All yard waste must be placed in biodegradable paper yard waste bags, bundled or barreled. All brush and branches shall be tied together in lengths no greater than four (4) feet for curbside pickup. Yard waste will also be accepted from residents for free on Saturdays at the Transfer Station.
