The Town of East Greenwich is providing important public safety information pertaining to fire alarm street boxes.

The street boxes are the red boxes mounted on telephone poles and pedestals throughout the town of East Greenwich. When activated it alerts the fire department dispatch center of an emergency.

Over the last week testing was conducted on the entire system to verify functionality in the event of an emergency. It was determined during this testing that 48% of the street boxes are not functioning at this time.

We have taped all of the non-functioning boxes shut and placed a red “out of service tag” on each one so the public is alerted that they are not working at this time.

Out of service fire alarm box All of the out- of - service boxes are located west of South County Trail in the Frenchtown area.

A full report shall be presented at the Town Council meeting on August 27th.
