On Thursday, January 31, 2019, The East Greenwich School Committee voted not to pursue a Caruolo action against the Town of East Greenwich for fiscal year 2019. In its public statement the Committee recognized “... that the East Greenwich Town Council faces significant fiscal challenges that are not of its own making, and appreciate the fact that, nevertheless, the Council chose to at least partially fund our supplemental appropriation request. While the East Greenwich Public Schools continue to have significant unmet needs, we are prepared to work in partnership with the Town Council to begin to right the ship in the coming fiscal year."
The East Greenwich Town Council appreciates the statement of support and vote taken by the School Committee. The Council is committed to working closely with our colleagues on the School Committee to build a fiscally sound budget for 2020 that gives our School Committee the funds it needs for its educational mission, while maintaining our excellent town services.
