TAX BILLS New tax bills should be out indicating the Town property tax bill and the Fire District tax bill. This will be the first time residents will be able to pay their Fire District taxes quarterly. The date for the receipt of taxes without penalty has been extended to October 15th with the grace period extending to October 31th. COMMUNITY FACILITIES *FRENCHTOWN BASKETBALL COURT- Work to the Frenchtown Basketball Court has recently been completed at a cost of $55,300.00. The court was completely reconstructed featuring a new asphalt surface, a new latex court finish system, new perimeter fencing, and new goal posts, backboards and rims. *KING STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT- Work resumes on the King Street Improvement Project. To date most of the new exposed aggregate concrete side walk has been installed featuring new granite curbing. A new asphalt sub base has also been installed. Overhead work by the utility companies should be coming to an end in the next few weeks. New ornamental street lights, trees and landscaping are scheduled to be installed in the near future. The project is scheduled to be completed by early November. RESOURCE RECOVERY GRANT TO EAST GREENWICH - RECYCLING SAVES EAST GREENWICH MONEY $$$$ *For every ton of recyclable material that is not put into the waste stream the Town avoids a $32.00 per ton tipping fee or charge to dispose of the recyclables at the Johnston landfill. We encourage everyone to use their blue and green bins and recycle regularly. If you do not have a bin please call DPW at 886-8621. Common recyclable items include glass, cans, plastic containers, cardboard, papers, etc. Please note: cardboard cartons need to be cut up and flat to be properly disposed of by our collectors.
RECYCLING BINS If your bin is lost or damaged or you would like an additional bin they can be obtained at the Public Works Office located at the lower level of Swift Gym at 111 Peirce Street. TAX RATE BREAKOUT The Finance department has calculated the tax rate breakout for the 2008 fiscal year. The Total tax rate is $13.54 while the municipal share is $2.77 (20.5%); the School allocation is $10.77 (79.5%). DEVELOPMENT *Single family building permits year to date (2007) total 16 thru August versus 19 for the same period in 2006, however, the value posted for 2007 is $6,262,000 versus $5,622, 753 in 2006. *Town staff is reviewing a pre application package for a 190 unit assisted and independent living facility located at 1434, 1454 and 1470 South County Trail proposed by Sunrise Development, Inc. *Premier Development has requested to revise its Final Plan for 60 Crompton Avenue for an office building. *A preliminary plan application has been received for a 77,000 square foot office development at 1600 South County Trail.
