ASSESSMENT DIVISION
Janice J. Peixinho, Tax Assessor, 401-886-8614
jpeixinho@eastgreenwichri.com

The Assessment Division is a part of the Finance Department. The division is responsible for the valuation of all property in town. The assessor's office also is responsible for the recording and maintenance of all personal exemptions available to the taxpayers.

Information is available to regarding all properties in the office. The last revaluation of real property was completed in 2008 for the 2009 tax roll. All subsequent assessments reflect values as of that date.

Under recent state legislation communities must revalue all properties every three years, and have a complete revaluation every nine years. A statistical update differs from a revaluation is that only real property is involved, and existing data is updated based on sales rather than a door to door inspection of all properties.

East Greenwich also has a program of pro-rating the tax on newly constructed real estate. If a building is completed during the calendar year the assessment is calculated from the issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy to the end of the year, and a separate bill is sent to the homeowner.
