The East Greenwich Police Department has 30 police officers, an animal control officer, 4 dispatchers, an administrative assistant, a secretary and a part-time dispatcher. The officers have received CPR, Automatic Emergency Defibrillator and first aid training. Several are trained Emergency Medical Technicians.
The Department has a complete Bureau Criminal Identification unit, a Traffic Accident Reconstructionist, a Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer and a Tactical SWAT team. A majority are graduates of the University of Rhode Island Criminalistic School with training in scientific investigation, photography and fingerprinting.
There is a "Bike" patrol which covers the waterfront during the summer and works special events.The Department also runs a Citizen's Police Academy twice a year in which citizens receive demonstrations on police training, patrol procedures and have the opportunity to ride along on patrol.
